Richard Corley of Irmo Wins Scholarship

COLUMBIA, SC – May 22, 2009 – Secretary of Transportation H.B. “Buck” Limehouse Jr. approved the awarding of five engineering scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each to students planning to attend or currently attending one of South Carolina’s Civil Engineering institutions of higher learning –  Clemson University, The Citadel, University of South Carolina, South Carolina State University.

Richard Corley of Irmo will be a freshman in the fall at Clemson University.  He is the son of Wayne Corley.  He plans to put practical design into practice.

Funding for the scholarships originated from the Southeastern Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (SASHTO) to provide scholarships for students currently enrolled or accepted to attend a School of Civil Engineering.

Eligible students submitted an application, a copy of their transcript and a 500-word, typed-essay entitled “How I will use my engineering degree to impact transportation in America.”

Other winners were Amanda Woodrum of Orangeburg, Matthew T. Kelly of Batesburg-Leesville, Stanley K. Dorn Jr. of Saluda, and Philip Bethea of Latta.
