Richland One’s SOAR into Summer celebration gives parents tips to prevent the summer learning slide

May 6, 2019

During the summer, sometimes students like to take a break from learning, which can lead to what educators refer to as the “summer slide.” Richland One has tips to share with parents and families about what they can do at home this summer to keep their children engaged and learning.

The Richland One Office of Federal and State Programs invites all district students, parents and families to its second SOAR Into Summer Success celebration, which will be held on Saturday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Goodman Building on the South Carolina State Fairgrounds.

SOAR Into Summer Success will be a fun, family event filled with information about summer opportunities, college readiness, community resources, food, games, prizes and so much more.

“As summer approaches, we would like to encourage parents and families to help students stay focused to prevent the ‘summer slide,’” said Dr. Sandra Lindsay-Brown, director of the district’s Office of Federal and State Programs.

SOAR Into Summer Success is a free event, but parents must register online by May 14 by going to Eventbrite.com and searching for Soar Into Summer Success tab. Richland One parents who would like additional information should call (803) 231-6815 or 231-6816.
