COLUMBIA, SC – At the Tuesday, November 15, 2016 board meeting, Superintendent Debbie Hamm recommended and the Richland School District Two Board of Trustees approved longtime Richland Two educator Dr. Sabina Mosso-Taylor to become the new principal of Jackson Creek Elementary School effective January 2017.

Dr. Mosso-Taylor fills the vacancy created when Dr. Marshalynn M. Franklin, who is currently serving as principal of Polo Road Elementary and was slotted to become principal of Jackson Creek Elementary in January, was named assistant superintendent in October. When Dr. Mosso-Taylor becomes principal of Jackson Creek Elementary in January, she will begin preparing for the opening of the school in August 2017.

Mosso-Taylor began her teaching career in Tennessee and joined the Richland Two family as an early childhood special education teacher at then Anna Boyd Child Development Center in 1995. In 2007, she began serving as the Spears Creek Road Child Development and Montessori lead teacher. Dr. Mosso-Taylor was promoted to principal of the Center for Achievement in 2014. In addition, she is an adjunct instructor for the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Mosso-Taylor has a Bachelor of Science in elementary education/special education from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a master’s and doctorate in early childhood education from the University of South Carolina. She achieved National Board Certification in 2002 and was recertified in 2012 and earned her elementary principal certification in 2014. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the national Scholastic Early Childhood Professional Award in 2005, a Dole ‘5 A Day’ Teacher of the Year in 1999 and Anna Boyd Child Development Center Teacher of the Year in 1998.

“Dr. Mosso-Taylor has proven time and time again that she is a talented and dedicated leader who cares deeply for her students,” said Superintendent Debbie Hamm. “I know she will pour her skills, gifts and heart into the opening of Jackson Creek Elementary School so that every student, parent and employee feels a part of a welcoming school family even before the doors open.”
