SCE&G to open Lake Murray public parks for 2017 recreation season

April 3, 2017

SCE&G’s public parks on both sides of the Lake Murray Dam will open for the season on Wednesday, April 5. The boat-launching park on the Irmo side and the beach/recreation area on the Lexington side will remain open through Sept. 8.

“We’re proud to provide safe, fun public spaces where people can enjoy Lake Murray,” said Tommy Boozer, who manages the parks for SCE&G. “Our team has been working to improve the shoreline and get our facilities ready for the season, and we look forward to welcoming visitors.”

Operating hours will be from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday until May 1, after which the park will stay open until 8 p.m. Weekend and holiday hours are from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Parking fees are charged during normal operating hours to partially offset the cost of maintenance, security and improvements at the parks. Fees are $2 for motorcycles, $3 for cars or trucks and $5 for passenger vans. Season passes can be purchased for $45 per vehicle.

The public boat launch on the Irmo side has three ramps and is open 24 hours a day. The beach/recreation area on the Lexington side is staffed by security during operating hours, but the swimming area is not monitored by lifeguards. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Restrooms and picnic facilities are available.
