September 10, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – Saint Joseph Catholic School began the celebration of its 60th anniversary with a special Mass for students, families and parishioners celebrated by Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone on Friday, September 5th. Afterwards, the Bishop visited the children in their classes and then contributed his handprint to the wall mural commemorating the anniversary celebration.

At the Mass, Bishop Gugliemone spoke favorably of not only the past 60 years, but to the strength of the Columbia community for its support and the prospect of continued success for future generations of children who will be educated by this award-winning school.

In his blessing of the school, Gugliemone highlighted the creed of Saint Joseph Catholic School which uses the acronym “JOSEPH” as its guiding principle. “Today, at the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Saint Joseph Catholic School, we ask that you continue to bless the students, parents, faculty, and staff that they may always be Just, Obedient, Service Oriented, Examples to others, Prayerful and Humble.”

This event begins a year-long celebration of Saint Joseph Catholic School’s 60th anniversary. The school and its students continue to be recognized locally, state-wide and nationally for their outstanding achievements. Most recently, this past spring, the school was named as a National School of Character.
