Seven Clinton Students Recognized for Excellence at Palmetto Boys and Girls State Academy

August 18, 2024

Seven young adults from the Clinton area recently celebrated a significant achievement by successfully participating in the prestigious American Legion Palmetto Boys and Girls State Academy. These students were honored during an awards banquet held at the Laurens County District 56 Conference Center, where they were awarded completion certificates in recognition of their accomplishments.

The week-long immersion program provided the students with an in-depth exploration of Americanism, civics, Constitutional issues, leadership, communications, networking, and mock elections. While the program’s studies were rigorous, many participants expressed that the experience was, in some ways, “the best part of high school.”

Among those recognized were Andrew Workman, William Reid, Samuel Gearheart, and Brett Young, all from Clinton High School (CHS), and Kaleb Ward from Thornwell Charter. Post 56 Commander Rossi Hanna, along with American Legion State Third Vice-Commander Russ Cantrell, were present to congratulate the boys on their achievements.

The girls who participated included Erin Marie Donely and Elizabeth Hailey Reid, both from Clinton High School. They were recognized by President of Unit 56 Auxiliary, Jane Hanna, who was also present at the event.
