Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awards $120,000 in grants

COLUMBIA, SC – The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded five grants totaling $120,000 to the following organizations committed in their programming to the issues of Poverty in the state of South Carolina.
“We, at the Sisters of Charity Foundation, value the important work of these organizations and appreciate their tireless efforts to serve those in need,” says Tom Keith, Sisters of Charity Foundation President. “In appreciation of their work, we are grateful to offer them this support.”
The five recently awarded grantees are:
South Carolina Institute of Medicine and Public Health (third year commitment)/ Columbia
In a joint partnership with the Duke Endowment, the Foundation has helped launch and fund a Health Policy Fellows program through the Institute. The program provides elected officials with comprehensive, evidence-based information on health issues to inform policy decisions.
Midlands Housing Alliance-Transitions /Columbia area
Transitions seeks to move people from homelessness to permanent housing. Various strategies and types of housing are used to help secure individuals living on the street and enroll them in services designed to stabilize their lives, increase their income, and help them secure permanent housing.
Edventure / Midlands
EdVenture seeks to establish school gardens at six Club EdVenture after-school sites at elementary schools in Richland School District One. Using the SC Department of Agriculture’s School Gardens toolkit, Staff at the schools and Club EdVenture students will cultivate and maintain their own gardens.
ETV Endowment of SC / statewide with a focus on the Midlands Fatherhood Program
SCETV is creating “Fathers in America”, a timely, engaging and impactful national public television series, community outreach and engagement project on the stories and issues affecting fathers in America today. Foundation support would allow the opportunity to conduct critical research and development of the project. It will also enable the producers to widen the scope of the project to include representation in the South and enable the production team to work with agencies and social experts in our region.
South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations (SCANPO) / Statewide
SCANPO is the only statewide membership organization and network that brings together nonprofit leaders to strengthen the nonprofit sector. SCANPO seeks to begin the expansion of their Knowledge Network services, providing training and consultative resources that address all stages of nonprofit development and benefit nonprofit staff, volunteers and emerging leaders.
