South Carolina Interagency Transportation Coordination Council

COLUMBIA, SC – December 4, 2009 – Governor Mark Sanford signed Executive Order 2009-13, On September 25, 2009 establishing the South Carolina Interagency Transportation Coordination Council (The Council), to promote interagency cooperation and statewide coordination to cut costs and eliminate waste in current transportation programs.  The Council will conduct its initial meeting Thursday, December 10, 2009, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Headquarters Building.  The objective of The Council is to promote and increase the use of existing transportation options, and to increase access, mobility and safety for the public. 

Gov. Sanford appointed Bill McIlwain of Lexington to the South Carolina Interagency Transportation Coordination Council.  McIlwain served at the South Carolina Department of Transportation for 42 years, including posts as Statewide Rail Program Manager, Director of Administration, and Director of Finance.  The Council will be comprised of legislators, executive directors, heads of state agencies, and/or their designees.  The Council will publicly offer its recommendations in quarterly reports.
