South Carolina Now Enforcing Ban on ‘Carolina Squat’ Trucks

May 12, 2024

South Carolina has officially enforced its ban on the ‘Carolina Squat’ vehicle modification after a 180-day grace period, effective May 10th. This regulation prohibits drivers from significantly elevating the front end of their vehicles compared to the rear—a practice that raises safety concerns due to compromised visibility and handling.

During the grace period, drivers received warnings, but now violations will incur fines starting at $100 for the first offense, increasing to $200 for subsequent violations. A third offense within a year will result in a $300 fine and a year-long suspension of the driver’s license.

The crackdown reflects South Carolina’s commitment to road safety and vehicle conformity. By enforcing these penalties, the state aims to discourage non-compliant modifications that could jeopardize public safety and promote a more uniform and secure driving environment. The enforcement sends a clear message that compliance with vehicle regulations is crucial for ensuring a safer driving experience for all motorists.
