South Carolina’s Solar Pioneer Receives Statewide Renewable Energy Award

August 11, 2014

Bruce Wood recognized for his decades-long push to improve availability of solar energy options

Bruce Wood, owner of Greenville-based Sunstore Solar Energy Solutions, was named winner of the 2014 Special Recognition Award by the South Carolina Solar Council during a ceremony earlier this month.

In presenting the award, Todd Delello, Chair of the Solar Council, praised Wood’s 37 years of work to provide widespread, reliable solar options to business owners and residents within the Palmetto State. The award dovetails with recently passed legislation that requires South Carolina’s private utilities to receive two percent of their average peak power from the sun. Once the law is fully implemented, consumers can expect to cut their upfront costs associated with installing solar panels by leasing them.

“Bruce Wood has worked tirelessly as a passionate and devoted leader to advance the solar industry in our state,” said Grant Reeves, president of the South Carolina Solar Business Alliance. “Customers wishing to have more affordable, renewable energy sources have a strong advocate in Mr. Wood, and I’m pleased to see the South Carolina Solar Council recognizing his efforts.”

In a separate presentation at the ceremony, Wood’s company, Sunstore Solar, was among the companies recognized for work on the Santee Cooper Colleton Solar Farm – a collaboration of several energy companies – which will produce enough electricity to power more than 300 homes.
