Southern First Bank creates endowment to benefit Greenville Technical College students with scholarships

March 21, 2016

A $20,000 gift from Southern First Bank will be used to create an endowment funding scholarships for students attending Greenville Technical College. Once fully funded, the endowment will provide one half scholarship for a deserving student each year, to be used where the need is greatest.

Southern First Bank has supported the college’s mission of driving personal and economic growth through learning before, as a sponsor of the Greenville Tech Foundation’s Entrepreneurs Forum and Workforce Development Salute.

“We believe in the college’s mission and have seen that it delivers enormous benefit to the community,” said Fred Gilmer, III, executive vice president and chief lending officer at Southern First Bank. “Scholarships mean that more people can access the education they need to succeed, which impacts not only the students but also employers and the community as a whole.”

“Each time a generous donor creates an endowment, financial hurdles are lifted for generations of students to come,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “We are grateful to Southern First Bank for partnering with us to improve access to higher education through this lasting gift.”
