Spartanburg Water submits inventory findings for Lead and Copper Rule revision requirement
October 17, 2024The samples collected showed no lead service or “unknown” lines throughout distribution system
In late 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a revised version of its Lead and Copper Rule (LCRR) that requires all drinking water utilities to perform an inventory of the service lines in their distribution area to determine the number of lead lines and submit the data by October 16, 2024.
Spartanburg Water has successfully completed an inventory of our service lines using a sampling statistics model that determined a comprehensive sample size that was representative of the total population. The Spartanburg Water team obtained samples by potholing on the customer side of water meters and visually determining the composition of the service lines throughout all of our distribution systems, including Landrum, Spartanburg, Cowpens and Pacolet.
Following the completion of the sampling process, no lead service lines or lines deemed to be made with “unknown” materials were found. Additionally, Spartanburg Water performs tri-annual tests for lead throughout our service area and consistently has not found any positive results.
Once the inventory data is submitted to SCDES and the EPA on October 16, 2024, the data will be made available to the public through our website (www.spartanburgwater.org).
“Our Spartanburg Water team did an exceptional job collecting and analyzing the data throughout our entire service area,” said CEO, Guy Boyle. “With the results of our inventory, I hope our Spartanburg Water customers and community continue to feel confidence in the safety and quality of their drinking water resources.”
