Spiritual connection focus of local artist’s new exhibit at Richland Library

June 3, 2019

A new art exhibit wants to awaken a spiritual and emotional connection in others. BA AKHU: A New Path goes on display Thursday, June 6 in The Gallery at Richland Library.

To celebrate, an opening reception is scheduled that night during First Thursday on Main (June 6). Meet the artist, Baba Seitu Amenwahsu, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at our Main location (1431 Assembly Street). The program, which is free and open to the public, includes a musical performance by Spiritual Gumbo.

The work from Amenwahsu of Columbia, South Carolina features about 20 grand-sized pieces of mixed media art. Each piece has multiple patterns, and they are layered with different shapes, figures, forms and colors.

Drawing from ancestral inspiration, the exhibit expresses Amenwahsu’s faith in humanity and power in the universe. He says the artwork is “spiritually and musically interwoven to produce a rhythmic healing and audio sensation in the eyes of emotions of the viewer.”

BA AKHU: A New Path runs through Sunday, September 1.
