State Museum announces new line up of Spring Break and Summer camps

February 11, 2016

The South Carolina State Museum is excited to offer a new line up of camps for spring break and summer for the 2016 season. Each camp is themed with a different focus and subject matter for each day or the entire week. Campers engage in a number of activities from exploring new galaxies in the BlueCross BlueShield Planetarium to creating their very own rockets and rubber band helicopters.

Spring break camps will run from Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 1. Each day will focus on a different subject matter history to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics programing. Every day of camp features a morning social time with other campers, museum exploration, hands-on and interactive activities, snack time and lunch time. Each day campers will be divided into two groups by ages 6 – 9 and 10 – 13.

Summer camps will run from June until August. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of different camps while exploring the museum, experiencing 4D and planetarium shows, and engaging in problem based educational activities and STEM projects throughout the day. Whether it’s exploring space in the planetarium and observatory, engineering their own robotic designs, discovering the world of physics, or even experimenting with a world of chemistry, there’s something for every camper to enjoy. Summer Camps are separated by ages, 6-8; 9-11 and 12-14.

“Campers will be immersed in a world of creativity and learning with museum education staff,” says education manager, Laura Kane. “State Museum camps are a great way to keep your child’s mind exercised during breaks and allow them to have a fun, memorable experience.”
