May 25, 2015GREENVILLE, SC – Molly Spearman, South Carolina’s state superintendent of education, will be in Greenville Tuesday, May 26, to visit Public Education Partners’ (PEP) Make Summer Count book fair at Hollis Academy and speak at a luncheon hosted by PEP.
“We host, on an annual basis, people who influence education in our state, and we are delighted that Superintendent Spearman has the opportunity to spend a whole day in Greenville,” Grier Mullins, executive director of PEP, said.
Spearman’s visit will include a stop at PEP’s Make Summer Count book fair at Hollis Academy, where Spearman will see students choose and receive as many as 12 free books to build home libraries and maintain reading achievement over the summer.
“Mrs. Spearman really likes to see what’s happening in our schools firsthand, and she understands and appreciates the value of the connection between the community and schools,” Mullins said. “It’s so important to get her to the Greenville schools because we have a lot to be proud of that we want to show off.”
The luncheon will be at the Embassy Suites in Greenville, beginning at noon, where Spearman will speak to business leaders, community members and educators about her vision for public education in South Carolina. She will also take questions from attendees during a Q-and-A session.
“The state superintendent is the most influential person in terms of K-12 education and public policy, and we are delighted she is visiting our community to share her vision about education in South Carolina,” Mullins said.
The luncheon, featuring Superintendent Spearman, is hosted by PEP, with the support of donors Allen Tate Realtors and South Carolina Student Loan and in partnership with the United Way of Greenville County, Greenville Chamber of Commerce and South Carolina PTA.
