Statement on Higher Education Transparency Act of 2011

CLEMSON, SC – December 1, 2010 – Clemson University President James F. Barker participated in a newsconference today at the Statehouse about the Higher EducationTransparency Act of 2011 requiring South Carolina’s colleges anduniversities to publicly disclose all expenditures online.

Statement on Higher Education Transparency Act of 2011

ClemsonUniversity supports the Higher Education Transparency Act, and wecongratulate Speaker Harrell and his colleagues in the House for theirleadership and thank them for engaging with higher education in theprocess. We’ve worked closely with leaders in the legislature and theComptroller General’s office on this issue over the past year.

Clemsonis fully committed to transparency, and we’re already working on a Website that will provide data, context and ease of access for financialtransactions. We anticipate that the site will be up and running inJanuary.

Clemson has a long history of transparency and fulldisclosure.  In fact, we’ve received the Certificate of Achievement forExcellence in Financial Reporting from the national Government FinanceOfficers Association for 17 consecutive years, which – according to theassociation – is reserved for institutions that prepare comprehensiveannual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency andfull disclosure.”
