Stop Wishing For More Time

We all do it; wishing we had more time.

Whether it’s a work or on the weekends, there never seems to be enough time to get everything done we need to, or better yet want to.

It’s very disheartening to feel like you’re always pushing your hobbies, joys or just free time to the side to make time for what you ‘need’ to do.

Now you can take heart, because there are ways to actually make time.   Well, not really, but these three strategies are proven to free up time you can use for fun things by getting the mundane ones out-of-the-way.

Here’s what you need to know:

1.    Group small tasks together.  While they seem like quick, little tasks; they actually take up a lot of time if you try to tackle them separately throughout the day.  Instead of trying to make time for each little thing individually, set aside a larger block of time to knock them all out.  It’s partly a mindset thing, but completing several things in a two-hour block gives us a greater sense of accomplishment and momentum, as well as better controls how much time you spend on rather routine chores.

2.    Fill the gaps.  It’s nearly impossible, and draining, to schedule every minute of the day.  Therefore we often have small blocks of time, 10-20 minutes, which are quite literally wasted.  It’s not enough time to undertake a major task, but it could be perfectly adequate for a smaller one.  Don’t let time slip through your fingers.  You don’t have to use every break in the day to be productive.  One or two a day will add up to a large block of ‘free time’ by the end of the week.

3.    Miss opportunities intentionally.  This is essentially the same thing as prioritizing, but from a different perspective.  Inherently tasks have different priority levels, but even with urgent ones, we can only tackle one at a time.  This strategy looks at prioritizing by weighing the costs of the delay.  Undoubtedly there will be lost opportunities, but that’s life.  We can’t capitalize on every one that crosses our path, but we can be okay with letting one go, if we do it intentionally.  It’s unintentional missed opportunities that we tend to kick ourselves over.

As we gear up for another weekend, there is still time to employ these strategies effectively so that you can both free up time over the weekend, as well as next week.  Though we can’t literally make more time, we can reach the goal of never regretting how we spent the time we have.
