The Citadel Prepares to Welcome New Dean of the School of Education

CHARLESTON, SC – The Citadel is preparing to welcome a new dean of the School of Education who will join the college in July. Dr. Larry G. Daniel will join The Citadel as the new head of the school which provides undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of areas in the field of education.

Daniel’s career in education spans 34 years, including experience as a public school teacher, adult educator, and university professor and administrator. He will join The Citadel from the University of North Florida, where he served for a decade as Dean of the College of Education and Human Services.  He was also the founding executive director of North Florida’s Center for Urban Education and Policy.  A strong advocate for community involvement in educational programs, Daniel brings substantial experience in collaborating with schools relative to the professional development of educators. He taught courses in educational research and educational policy.  Daniel’s research interests include teacher education, educational reform, and educational policy, the use of statistics in published research, measurement issues, and multivariate statistical methods.

Daniel holds a Ph. D. in Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans.  He is a past editor of Research in the Schools and past president of the Teacher Education Council of State Colleges and Universities.

This was especially evident during his time at the University of North Florida where he helped establish the Center for Urban Education and Policy. As Dean of the School of Education at The Citadel, he undoubtedly will become an active leader in the education arena of Charleston and the Lowcountry.”

Daniel replaces Dr. Tony Johnson who served as dean of the School of Education for eight years.

In the past decade The Citadel’s School of Education has produced 991 teachers, administrators and counselors who are contributing to the education of and well-being of thousands of students in the Lowcountry and beyond.
