The City of Cayce Hosts Trail Ride for SC Department of Agriculture

May 20, 2014
CAYCE, SC – The City of Cayce was proud to host officials from the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, in-cluding Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers, on Friday, May 16 as they worked to draw attention to the need to open more public trails in South Carolina.
The officials joined representatives from the City of Cayce in a morning horseback ride along trails in Cayce on property owned by SCANA, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the City of Cayce, with improvements by the River Alliance. As privately owned land, it has never been available for public trail rides. The joint venture helped highlight the need for trails open to the horse-riding public in the Midlands.
The state’s equine industry has an estimated $3 billion impact on South Carolina’s economy.
“This area is such an important historic place not just for Cayce and Lexington county, but for the Midlands, and the State,” stated Cayce Mayor Elise Partin. “It is our hopes that others around the region will take a look at the importance of trails and walkways and how they positively impact citizen’s health and overall quality of life.”
The City of Cayce is located on the banks of the Congaree River in the heart of the Midlands of South Carolina. Cayce has a Council-Manager form of government, and the members of the City Council meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm at City Hall. The city has several public event venues and parks. The beautiful Cayce Riverwalk Park has more than 46 acres of river park area and 2.5 miles of scenic walkways. For more information, visit www.cityofcayce-sc.gov.
