Projects receive Top Job Awards for the Eighth Consecutive Year

For eight years running, work designed and/or produced by The Heirloom Companies was honored by the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA) during its 2018 Ernest Wiemann Top Job Competition in Phoenix, Arizona. The Heirloom Companies received one silver award in the Furniture & Accessory Fabrication-Nonforged category and one bronze award in the Stairs Complete-Residential category.

Allyn Moseley, The Heirloom Companies’ Founder, was also awarded the Frank A. Kozik volunteer service award for his time and efforts he has given to the association over the past few years. The Frank A. Kozik Award is a special recognition that is given to a member for outstanding volunteer service. The award’s namesake, Frank Kozik, was NOMMA’s first president, and set an example by continuing to volunteer even after he was off the board.

“We are humbled to be recognized for not only our skill but our team again this year,” Ben Moseley, Head of Operations for The Heirloom Companies, said. “We are grateful to be continuously recognized for our craftsmanship and dedication to the industry. Our unique approach incorporates old-world techniques with the latest technology to deliver the best possible product to our clients and we are happy to have our efforts recognized.”

Through the Ernest Wiemann Top Jobs Competition, NOMMA awards member organizations for their excellence in design and products in 17 categories. Each category recognizes a gold, silver and bronze winner, all announced at the annual METALfab Conference. Top Job entries are displayed throughout the conference and every member organization receives one vote per category.

Silver | Furniture & Accessory Fabrication-Nonforged
(Metal fabrication including custom castings and cold forged elements with less than five percent hand forgings)
The Heirloom Companies developed two lights for a client’s gourmet kitchen at a private residence built by Edwards Builders and designed by Judy Mikula. The pieces were primarily cut out using CNC plasma technology and then bolted together. There are very few welds on this piece. The Heirloom team used a variety of materials including mild steel, copper, brass hardware and seeded glass. The only forging that was done was the four finials on the bottom and the curved pieces that connect the fixture to the down rods. The finish was wire wheel and gun bluing coated with polyurethane.

“Heirloom takes tremendous pride in their work,” Judy said. “It is nice to know, as a designer, if I take my clients to Heirloom and they design a piece, it is going to be of the highest quality.”

Bronze | Stairs Complete-Residential
(Majority of the stair is to be metal construction installed in a private residence)
The Heirloom team also developed mono stringer stairs at a private residence built by Dillard Jones. The design was a result of an ongoing design relationship between James Moseley, Head of Design for The Heirloom Companies, and Andy Dickerson, Dillard Jones’ Project Manager. The stairs feature a center beam of steel tube with stanchions to support the treads cut from half inch plate steel. The treads were hickory laminated to three-inch-thick with a pocket routed on the bottom to accept the plate steel. Glass balustrade capped with a matching hickory handrail completed the project.
