The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announces Jewitte Dooley as candidate for Woman of the Year

March 12, 2018

Dooley will Join Local Leaders Across the Country to Compete for Cancer Cures

The Midlands Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) announced that A. Jewitte Dooley of Lexington has been nominated as a candidate for LLS’s 2018 Woman of the Year. Candidates across the country will compete in honor of a local boy or girl who is a blood cancer survivor, to raise the most funds for blood cancer research.

Dooley, of Jewitte Dooley Law, is one of an elite group of community and business leaders who will compete for the titles of LLS’s Man & Woman of the Year. Competing for these titles is an honor surrounded with a great deal of fanfare, including a full-page ad in USA Today. However, the most important reason candidates participate is to find cures for blood cancers and ensure that patients have access to lifesaving treatments.

As a candidate, Dooley will raise funds for a world without blood cancers between March 6 and May 17, 2018. Every dollar she raises will count as one “vote” in her favor. The male and female candidates with the most “votes” will be awarded the titles Midlands Man & Woman of the Year at a Grand Finale on Thursday, May 17 at the USC Alumni Center. The local winners are then entered into the competition for National Man & Woman of the Year titles.

“The Man & Woman of the Year program is a great way for candidates to partner with other influential people in their communities to bring hope to thousands of blood cancer patients,” said Paul Jeter, LLS’s Midlands Chapter Executive Director. “Through programs like Man & Woman of the Year, LLS has invested more than $1 billion in research to advance breakthrough therapies.”
