The Pajama Game
March 16, 2016By Brian Maynor
As we start to see warmer weather the focus shifts from tight layers for warmth to loose layers for comfort, and let’s face it you can’t get more comfortable than pajamas.
We’ve seen an influx of the pajama trend ebb and flow over the past few years, but it seems to be sticking around in one shape or another. While it may sound effortless to just leave the house in your pajamas, there is actually a little more you need to know to pull this off.
Here are the must know rules for wearing pajamas outside of the house:
1. Think lux. When it comes to pulling off this trend you want to opt for luxurious fabrics like silk, satin or blends. Plain cotton pieces don’t give you the polish and tone you need to elevate sleepwear to daywear.
2. The shirt. This is a great unisex piece because the styles all favor the masculine version. You want to have some fun with these pieces so look for deep, saturated hues in solids, prints or patterns.
3. The pants. Pajama pants are perfect for spring and summer because they are cool, comfortable and again inject a little playfulness into your wardrobe. Vertical striped options are always a safe bet, but even if you feel extra adventurous, you want to wear a top that’s long enough to hit mid-hip.
4. The slip-dress. An iconic piece that forever oozes sex and the best way to leave little to the imagination. For chilly evenings you will want to top this with a cover and you can either go street-chic with a leather motorcycle jacket or preppy-casual with an oversized relaxed blazer. Either way the focus will never leave your body.
5. The robe. This piece is new to the game for 2016. Obviously the long housecoat style is not going to cut it for daywear, so opt for a shorter, belted version. Kimono styles in bold prints are the most popular.
Trends follow popular culture, so it’s sad to think we’ve reached the point that our days are so rushed we can’t fit in a few minutes to get dressed in the mornings. Fortunately you can’t pull this off by simply rolling out of bed and leaving the house. You still have to shower and get ready, it’s just you get to wear more comfortable pieces.
