The Soft Science of Love: A Talk on the Economics of Tourism & Romance with Dr. Simon Hudson at Science Café on February 12, 2013

After an energetic crowd packed the house for January’s Science Café, EngenuitySC’s popular networking event and lecture series continues with a talk on romance and tourism by SmartState Endowed Chair Dr. Simon Hudson on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Speakeasy cocktail bar in Five Points.

In a relaxed, pub environment which encourages audience questions and discussion, Dr. Hudson will discuss romance, tourism and the South Carolina economy in connection with Valentine’s Day.

Free admission, cash bar and a convivial atmosphere are hallmarks of Science Café, home to The Year of the SmartState – a new, yearlong partnership between EngenuitySC and the SmartState ProgramTM (also known as the South Carolina Centers of Economic Excellence Program).

Dr. Hudson is the SmartState Endowed Chair in Tourism and Economic Development at the University of South Carolina. His research focuses on tourism as a driver of economic development. His goals are to create a one-stop resource of advanced information and intelligence for tourism industry stakeholders and to improve South Carolina’s competitiveness as a tourism destination.

He is an internationally recognized tourism expert who has written books on golf tourism, the international ski industry, sports and adventure tourism and tourism marketing. He has also published more than 40 journal articles and is a frequent speaker at international tourism conferences.

On the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., knowledge economy movers and shakers convene at Science Café at Speakeasy to enjoy high quality adult beverages and hear free talks by some of South Carolina’s top leaders in medicine, technology and innovation. Interruption, questions and discussion are not only encouraged – the rules of Science Café make it a priority to engage with speakers and push the boundaries of the conventional presentation format.
