Tod Hyche Elected South Carolina State Chair-Elect For American College Of Trust And Estate Counsel

GREENVILLE, SC – Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP is pleased to announce that Tod Hyche, partner in charge of the firm’s Greenville office, has recently been elected as South Carolina State Chair-Elect for the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). ACTEC is an organization of lawyers elected to membership by demonstrating the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence and experience as trust and estate counselors. Following his one year term as chair-elect, Hyche will assume the role of South Carolina State Chair for five years.

ACTEC was established in 1949 and consists of approximately 2,700 attorneys throughout the United States, Canada, and other foreign countries. Members elected to ACTEC must have no less than ten years of experience in the active practice of trusts and estates or estate planning, provide substantial contributions to the field, demonstrate exceptional skills within the practice and more. ACTEC members are nominated by other Fellows in their state of residence and are elected by the membership at large.
Hyche has been an ACTEC Fellow since 2009. As the South Carolina State Chair of ACTEC, he will be responsible for attending national and Southeast regional meetings, planning and coordinating the Southeast regional meeting, managing the state membership committee, increasing state membership and more.
Since 1995, Hyche has practiced at Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP in the wealth transfer planning area. His work encompasses all aspects of estate planning, trusts and estates, and estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, including complex wills and revocable trusts, generation-skipping trusts, charitable trusts, charitable foundations, family limited partnerships, administration of estates and trusts, sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts, post-mortem planning, estate and gift tax returns, and representing clients in the audits of these returns.
Hyche received his bachelor’s degree from Furman University, his juris doctor from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, and his master of laws in taxation from the University of Florida.
