Trident Health Receives American Heart Association Platinum Award

N. CHARLESTON, SC – August 13, 2012 – Trident Health has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2012. Trident obtained this recognition for its quality care of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), and is one of only 164 hospitals in the nation to do so. Acute coronary syndrome is a term used for any condition brought on by sudden, reduced blood flow to the heart and is treatable if diagnosed quickly.
 
This award recognizes Trident’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. It signifies that Trident and Summerville Medical Centers have reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association science based clinical guidelines aimed at acute intervention and secondary prevention to save lives and improve outcomes of heart attack patients.

To receive the GWTG Platinum Award, Trident consistently followed the treatment guidelines and met a performance standard of 90% for specific performance measures. Following these treatment guidelines improves adherence to  ACC/AHA Clinical Guideline recommendations, monitors drug safety and the overall quality of care provided to ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non- ST- elevation myocardial infarction patients (NSTEMI).
