Uncle Willie’s grocery store grand opening

Christa Williams, owner and operator of Uncle Willie’s Grocery Store, City of Columbia and Community Leaders attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for Uncle Willie’s Grocery Store on April 29 at 10 a.m.

The store will serve as a one-stop shop to fulfill the meat-related needs of customers and sell dry goods, dairy products, fresh produce, desserts and beverages. Christa Williams, owner and operator, established the store to meet an immediate need of the lack of fresh and affordable food options in an area were such options are not available.

Christa Williams, owner and operator of Uncle Willie’s Grocery Store stated that, “After hearing so many concerns from the community about needing a grocery store, I started putting in the work and started doing the research and here we are today.” “When it came down to naming the business, I thought about Uncle Willie and all of the sacrifices made… I decided to name this establishment after him.”

Mayor Daniel Rickenmann and Councilwoman Tina Herbert represented the City of Columbia at the ribbon cutting ceremony, expressing their excitement for the grand opening of Uncle Willie’s Grocery Store.

Mayor Daniel Rickenmann stated that, “What a great opportunity….every day that I get the opportunity to go to a business that is opening up, is a great day in the City of Columbia….this was built with love, which means this will succeed..tenacity, Ms. Williams had a dream and an opportunity that she wanted to pursue and she followed through with it.”

Councilwoman Tina Herbert stated that, “I’m really excited to be here today; because Ms. Williams you helped us with the vision for this corridor in so many ways… we have to support this business, she will not last if we don’t come and support she cannot do it by herself.”

The city is pleased to welcome Uncle Willie’s Grocery Store to Main Street.

Uncle Willie’s Grocery Store is located at 2205 Main Street; they are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
