COLUMBIA, SC – United Way of the Midlands is pleased to welcome to the team Alice Curtin Thaxton as its new Director of Education Partnerships and Policy.  In this role, Thaxton will support United Way’s education initiatives and direct its policy work.

Thaxton brings to United Way years of experience in education and community impact. She served with Teach for America for four years as an elementary school teacher and most recently worked as the Director of Impact and Service at City Year.

“I am thrilled to join United Way of the Midlands as we work to engage families in their children’s learning and development and ensure our children enter school ready to learn and are reading on grade level by third grade,” said Thaxton.

United Way is committed to seeing every child in the Midlands excel in the classroom. The organization works with schools, students and families from preschool to high school to ensure students stay on the path to graduation, and are equipped with the skills to live fulfilling and productive lives.

“Education is an essential cornerstone of United Way’s mission to improve life in the Midlands, and we are excited to have Alice Curtin on board,” said Anita Floyd, Sr. VP of Community Impact and Strategic Implementation.
