Up for discussion again Tuesday, June 24 in the City of Columbia is an Ordinance amending a Parks and Recreation code which prohibits acts in parks to the tune of 14 (Exclusive minor child play zones). Also, it looks the city is Financing itself by selling Special Obligation Bonds to the tune of $35 mil (Hospitality Fee Pledge) for a certain Multi-Use Entertainment Venue (Also known as Bull Street).
Also, on Tuesday June 24, Richland 2 School District talks Common Core standards after a Bootcamp to better understand their processes. Also, they have a third and final reading with no objections to their budget update. Finally the District is being presented with 2 options for a new high school to be built by 2016 which will downsize surrounding schools.
Wednesday, June 25, Lexington County Council is being asked for $150,000 in Match Requests to build sidewalks in Batesburg-Leesville and the Town of Summit.

(1) Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) Grant Match Requests The Department of Public Works received two “local match” requests for Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) Grants: 1) The Town of Batesburg-Leesville requests $100,000 in “C” Funds as the local match for a $500,000, three-phase sidewalk project. Sidewalks will be placed along portions of state owned East Columbia Avenue, East Church Street, and North Hendrix Street. This project will address pedestrian needs between the business districts of Batesburg and Leesville, where significant commercial growth has occurred. Any additional costs will be absorbed by the Town. 2) The Town of Summit requests $54,067 in “C” Funds as the local match for a $270,337 sidewalk project. Sidewalks will be placed along portions of state owned Lewie Road, Church Street, Dixie Street, and Sandpit Road. This project will connect to the current walkway between Gilbert and Summit. It will then extend through the Town of Summit, incorporating the town hall, town park, and Lexington County Collection and Recycling Center.Quicklink: 33030

Participants from school Common Core Implementation Teams will share experiences from recent summer Boot Camps. The Board has approved a design-build project for a new elementary school that is slated to open for the 2016-17 school year. Two options have been proposed for the Board’s consideration, both of which will downsize existing elementary schools in the south end of the district, therefore making room for growth and eliminating portables from certain campuses.
