Why People Love You & You Should Love Yourself

Competition is part of our nature, and along with that comes the constant comparisons to those around us.

While this can, in moderation be motivation and inspiration to do better, it also has the ability to cause us anxiety and depression.

If you find yourself constantly comparing your life, happiness and success to others try to flip your focus away from the idea of life as a competition and think of it as a journey.  We are all here, but our experiences, goals and circumstances are completely our own.

It’s also important to remember that other people love you.  We are just a few days away from Valentine’s Day, the one day each year that focuses on love and expressing love, so this year include yourself in your expressions of love, not just others.

Here are just a few of the reasons why you are loved, and should love yourself:

1.    Your courage.  Life isn’t always easy, but you persevere through the hard times with courage and sometimes sheer force of will.  No one comes through adversity by cowering under the covers.  Even though you may not see it at the time, one side effect of courage is encouragement.  While you are fighting, you also encourage and inspire others to fight.

2.    Your passion.  Drive and inspiration are different for all of us, but when you see it you can’t help but appreciate and admire it.  When you are passionate, whether it’s in your job, volunteering or enjoying a hobby, it shines through in your energy, your enthusiasm and even the way you talk about your experiences.

3.    Your love.  Your friends don’t hang around out of obligation.  They are your friends because they enjoy being around you, and the value you add to their lives.  Your friends appreciate and love you for who you are, and tell you every time they say ‘thank you’.  The question is do you take the time to hear them?

4.    Your looks.  We all gravitate towards people we find attractive, and admiring it in others and ourselves is normal.  Embrace it, and don’t feel uneasy or dismiss a passing glance that lingers.  And if you really want to wow them, simply smile.

We tend to buy cards and gifts of love and appreciation for others, but this year, buy a Valentine’s Day card and something special for yourself too.
