Women’s Solar 101 Workshop recap

October 25, 2017

The City of Columbia and Solarize Columbia held a Women’s Solar 101 Workshop on Tuesday, October 24. City residents received information about the potential for solar energy for their homes.

The Women’s Solar 101 Workshop included three speakers

Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine

Mary Pat Baldauf, City Sustainability Facilitator

Sara Hummel Rajca, Community Outreach Manager for Solarize South Carolina

Solarize Columbia is a community-supported solar campaign that makes it easy for residents from the Midlands to go solar. Citizens learned Solarize Columbia offers new jobs for South Carolina, local trusted installers and $0 down financing. It also includes 55% tax credit, protection against rising energy costs and additional savings with utility programs.

Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine stated “A lot of people hear about solar or see the solar panels around town but don’t know much about it. I wanted to create an intimate opportunity for women to learn more about solar in SC and how this may be a good option for their households.”

“We are thankful to collaborate with SolarizeSC and others to help educate residents about the benefits of solar, especially in light of the City’s goal to transition to 100% renewable power by 2036,” said Mary Pat Baldauf, City Sustainability Facilitator.
