Wounded War Vet will Meet Wounded Dog He Helped Rescue

December 15, 2014

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Vietnam war veteran Vincent Bertolini of Summerville could not stop thinking about the tragic story of Dara.  She is the hound mix rescued one month ago in Hollywood, found shot in the legs multiple times.  Hearing her story, Vincent immediately donated $1,000 to her treatment, because he had been wounded in the legs himself, while serving in Vietnam.

“I understood what she was going through, because when I was shot, all I could think of is ‘I need to hide and be safe,’ and that’s exactly what Dara did,” Bertolini said.   Dara was found hiding under a house after her ordeal.

Saturday, Vincent will finally get the chance to meet Dara in-person, when Dara visits Charleston Animal Society with her foster family.  Dara is recovering well and walking!

“We are actively investiging Dara’s case, along with law enforcement,” said Charleston Animal Society Director of Animal Cruelty and Outreach Aldwin Roman.   “People with big hearts like Vincent are what keep us motivated to find the people who mistreat animals.”

A $2500 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person involved in shooting Dara.
