Checkpoint Charlie Foundation director to speak Nov. 12
September 26, 2012CHARLESTON, SC – The History Department and the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures & Cultures at The Citadel will host Andrea Mehrländer, executive director of the Checkpoint Charlie Foundation in Berlin, Germany, on Nov. 12.
Mehrländer will discuss the Germans of Charleston during the Civil War at 6:30 p.m. in Bond Hall Room 165. The talk will be in English and is free and open to the public.Mehrländer specializes in 19th Century North-American History, and conducted her main research on German immigration history in the South, the American Civil War and slavery.
She is the author of several books including her recent study: “The Germans of Charleston, Richmond and the New Orleans During the Civil War Period, 1850 – 1870: A Study and Research Compendium”
