Eight Nonprofit Leaders Receive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership Training

COLUMBIA, SC – August 11, 2010 – Eight students graduated from the Nonprofit Leadership Training Certificate Program, a collaborative effort between the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina and Columbia College. Friends, family and colleagues gathered at Columbia College’s Humphries Hall for the graduation ceremony, honoring the inaugural class. In addition to a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership Training, the students earned nine graduate-level credit hours through the Columbia College.

Columbia College Provost Laurie Hopkins, Ph.D., and Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina President Tom Keith recognized the graduates and presented the certificates. Stephen Patterson, noted speaker on the benefits of a good laugh and the importance of a positive attitude and author of “Better Living through Laughter; An Attitude to Live By,” gave the keynote address at the ceremony.

“The gratitude expressed from the graduates and the course facilitators was overwhelming,” said Tom Keith, president of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. “But the Sisters of Charity Foundation is most appreciative. We now have leaders who are even more empowered and already changing their organizations for the better. This program is a true benefit to the citizens of South Carolina.”
The Nonprofit Leadership Training Certificate Program is designed for nonprofit leaders who are recognized as having great potential and are ready to take their nonprofit leadership to the next level. The year-long program provides nonprofit leaders the opportunity to enhance knowledge, skills and frameworks to lead nonprofit organizations in an ever-changing diverse society.
This program is an expansion of the Foundation’s Learning Academy, which offers free daylong workshops and training to nonprofits addressing poverty across the state. The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina pays tuition for each student accepted in to the Nonprofit Leadership Training Certificate Program.
