South Carolina Cornbread Festival to Award $400 for Top Cornbread Recipe

COLUMBIA, SC – The 2015 South Carolina Cornbread Festival, taking place in Columbia, SC, invites home cooks from across South Carolina and neighboring states to enter their favorite cornbread recipe in the festival’s cook-off competition. The best recipe will be awarded a blue ribbon and a cash prize of $400.

In its third year, the Cornbread Festival is scheduled for March 27 and 28, and expects to bring more than 10,000 people to the North Columbia area. The cornbread cook-off has proven to be a big attraction as participants from more than 100 miles away have already submitted their applications.

 

Festival director, Sabrina Odom, says, “This year’s competition is going to be a serious one. We already have four applicants from North Carolina who promise bring their ‘A’ game. We encourage all of the wonderful cooks and home chefs in the South to join this friendly competition by displaying their culinary skills. We can’t wait to see what delicious treats surface as a result of this event.”

 

To enter, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and non-professional cooks. Recipes must be from scratch and submitted for review. Cornbread mixes and boxed products are not accepted, even as a base. Recipes will be judged by an impartial panel of on creativity, taste, texture and originality.
