Columbia Electrical Engineering Firm Recognized for Excellence in Data Center Design

COLUMBIA, SC – February 7, 2013 – GWA, Inc., Electrical Engineers of Columbia, SC, was awarded a 2013 Engineering Excellence Award in the Building/Technology Systems $2-$10 million category at the American Council of Engineering Companies’ (ACEC) annual Engineering Excellence Awards Ceremony held February 5, 2013 at the Columbia Museum of Art.
The award was given for the Lexington Medical Center Data Center and IS Facility, a new Data Center designed to support the hospitals $30M investment in the Epic Integrated hospital software package. LMC opted to renovate an existing 17,600-sf building previously housing the county health department into a state-of-the-art data center and IS facility and chose GWA, Inc. to plan, oversee and implement the work due to their experience and performance on similarly complex projects.
In the words of the Owner, “Lexington Medical Center asked and expected a lot out of GWA – be the lead on the entire design process, convert a dated county health clinic into a vibrant Tier III Data Center, design to a tight budget, design quickly because the building was needed immediately, and, oh yeah, make sure we have needed growth capacity for the next ten years. To each of these expectations GWA stood tall and delivered a product that exceeded our expectations.”
