A Taste of France Comes to Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC – August 1, 2012 – Laurent Prescelti of South France visited Columbia, South Carolina in 2010 and made the decision to open a French cuisine restaurant after realizing the southern charm of the area reminded him of home.  A former owner of a cleaning business in France, Prescelti returned home to begin his training to master the art of cooking.  One and a half years later, visa in hand, he returned to Columbia and attended the Columbia International Festival.

This past January, Prescelti opened Crepes & Croissants on 1465 Sumter St. — the only specialty French restaurant in Columbia.  The ambiance is bright and modern, with hints of France in the artwork on the walls.  The food is made fresh daily and is genuinely authentic — the Ratatouille recipe is his mother’s.

The restaurant features freshly-made crepes that can serve as either entree or dessert, depending on the ingredients.

I recommend the Italy Crepe, made with chicken marinated in basil, which is a personal touch of France, Prescelti says  

If you are feeling a sweet dessert, there is the Triple Treat which is a crepe with freshly diced bananas and strawberries with everyone’s favorite spread, Nutella.

Crepes & Croissants is open daily, specializing in breakfast and lunch.  On weekends they open at 10:00 a.m. and weekdays at 7:00 a.m., appealing to those early birds out there.  It is located on Sumter Street, just across from the Downtown YMCA.

The restaurant also caters events with specialized menus.  Prescelti mentioned that a yummy chocolate fountain is always a crowd-pleaser at his events.
