GSSM Receives Grant from Verizon Foundation
June 23, 2008HARTSVILLE, SC – June 23, 2008 – The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics recently received a $1,700 grant from the Verizon Foundation to fund an upgrade to the School’s foreign language lab.
This critical technology improvement will provide a much-needed solution while preparing for the school’s upcoming expansion in 2010 and the introduction of a brand new state-of-the-art digital media lab. Verizon’s investment will help to purchase software, subscription licenses and peripheral equipment for existing computers.
Verizon’s goal is to improve literacy and strengthen educational achievement for children and adults – preparing them for personal growth and success in the 21st Century, said Stan Bugner, Verizon vice president-public affairs, policy and communications in South Carolina. We focus on preparing children to be successful; enabling teachers, parents and caregivers to help children learn; and educating adults so they are prepared to achieve their goals and contribute to their communities. This is why the Verizon Foundation supports leading-edge, innovative and technology-based approaches to literacy and education.
