Dorchester County to Host SKYWARN Storm Spotter Training

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC – March 19, 2013 – On Tuesday, March 19, 2013 the Dorchester County Emergency Management Department (EMD) will host Storm Spotter Training, conducted by the National Weather Service – Charleston. SKYWARN is a volunteer program with several hundred thousand trained severe weather spotters. These trained indi-viduals assist their local weather office by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather.

Since the 1970s, the information provided by storm spotters, coupled with improved and more sophisticated technology enables the National Weather Service to issue more timely and accurate warnings for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods. Storm spotters contribute to the first-line of our nation’s defense against severe weather and help keep their communities safe.

Training will be held at the Dorchester County Human Services Building – County Council Chambers located at 500 N. Main Street in Summerville from 6:30PM-9:30PM. Please register with the Theresa McKnight at 843-832-0341.
