Americorps*Vista Program Opportunity For Agencies

February 25, 2013

CHARLESTON, SC – February 28 & March 5, 2013 – The City of Charleston, Project Sponsor of the AmeriCorps*VISTA program in Charleston County for 2013-14, will be hosting two informational meetings next week to kick-off the project site application process. Attendance at one of the sessions is required to apply, and the applications will be distributed at the session.

AmeriCorps*VISTA is the national service program of the Corporation for National and Community Service designed specifically to fight poverty. VISTA supports efforts to alleviate poverty by encouraging individuals from all walks of life to engage in a year of full-time service with a sponsoring organization to create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

Agencies and organizations serving the low-income community of the Charleston area are invited to apply to be a site and host a VISTA member for a one-year term working on projects that fall within these focus areas. The focus areas of the project are Education and Veterans/Military Families. AmeriCorps VISTA is an excellent resource for non-profits, agencies, and organizations.
