Piedmont Agency on Aging in Need of Volunteers in Clinton and Ware Shoals
July 11, 2022Are you retired but want to stay engaged with the community? Are you employed but looking for something flexible to do for others?
Piedmont Agency on Aging runs the Meals on Wheels program in Laurens County for in need senior citizens and they are looking for volunteers. All Laurens County meals are delivered on Wednesdays.
Volunteers to deliver meals go to their office (512 Professional Park Drive, Clinton) Wednesday between usually 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. They are located behind the hospital. Volunteers pick up the meals to be delivered along with addresses and route directions. Delivery routes take less than an hour. Many volunteers deliver on their lunch break.
There are many options to volunteer, and they want to work with anyone wanting to volunteer. You can deliver every Wednesday, once a month, or sign up to be a fill in for a regular volunteer when needed. Some volunteers do so with friends and share a route and deliver together, some grandparents bring their grandchildren, and teachers volunteer during the summer. Several Sunday School Classes and clubs share a route and take turns, and a few offices/workplaces have one route and rotate through the employee. Still others choose to deliver. They will be happy to work around your schedule.
If someone lives out in the edges of Laurens County and wants to deliver in their community, they can schedule a drop point. Then a driver will bring all the meals to the volunteer at a location such as Town Hall or a church. This way the volunteer does not have to come all the way into the middle of the county to head back to their home are to deliver.
A simple act of volunteering means so much to those in need. If you are interested, please contact the Laurens County Meals on Wheels Director, Christine Pyles at 864-938-0572, extension 1.
