Crescent Startup Community and anchor tenant Flywheel announce opening

August 12, 2024

Crescent Startup Community, a large-scale mixed-use Innovation District that will provide a dedicated space for startups, entrepreneurs, and the development of innovative ideas and projects, has announced, along with Flywheel, the completion and opening of Crescent One. The anchor tenant of the Crescent One building, Flywheel’s 27,000 square feet includes 40 pre-furnished private offices and suites, 60 open-plan coworking stations, large and small meeting spaces, seminar rooms, and conference space for events of up to 300 attendees.

“Flywheel is thrilled to be working with Hartness Development, Furman, and all of the other resident entrepreneurship service organizations involved in Phase One of the Innovation District,” said Alicia Hardin, a founding partner of Flywheel. “Our coworking innovation space, conference center, amenities, and programming provide affordable full-service support of over 200 professionals, solopreneurs, freelancers, consultants, remote corporate workers, and early-stage startup founders.”

Flywheel is the anchor tenant of Crescent One, the first building to open in the Crescent Startup Community. Along with its 27,000 square feet of space, amenities for Flywheel members include a large daylit atrium, a social common living room with a self-service beverage bar, mail service, virtual mail, copy print facilities, and a dedicated high-speed fiber internet connection with 1 gig up/down bandwidth.

The campus also includes an adjacent outdoor entertainment venue that can be used as workspace during the day, complete with Wi-Fi access. It is encircled by a food-truck rodeo loop, providing food service during events. Additionally, Fitness with a View, another Crescent One tenant, will offer Flywheel members and other building tenants access to its facility, which includes cardio equipment, weights, a yoga studio, locker rooms, and showers.

Crescent One offers eight additional tenant suites ranging from 2,500 to 5,000 square feet or combined over 20,000 square feet of additional space. Tenants will enjoy corporate memberships with Flywheel.

“In all the regions we serve, we try to co-locate a continuum of entrepreneurship resources under one roof so that any founder that walks in the door has access to developmental support and a contiguous capital stack,” said Peter Marsh, another founding partner of Flywheel and its sister Foundation that delivers capital, mentor networks, and developmental programs for entrepreneurs. “We look forward to bringing new value to the ecosystem in a vibrant live/work/play/learn district-scale community,” he continued.

Crescent’s location on Poinsett Highway is a site rich with innovation history as the former home of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company and The Piedmont Shirt Factory. The renovation and historic designation of the bottling facility, now named Crescent One, is Phase One of the project. The remainder of the Innovation District will open in phases with new construction and the creation of green space.

In addition to supporting and retaining the area’s entrepreneurs, Crescent is the start of Hartness Development’s strategy to rekindle and continue the location’s innovation history, attract companies and institutions who can bring opportunities that further build the community, and revitalize Greenville’s Poinsett Corridor.

Crescent Startup Community is located at 25 Goldsmith Street at Poinsett Highway. For more information on Crescent, please visit www.crescentscgvl.com. For more information on Flywheel, visit www.flywheelgreenvillesc.com.
