Relic Room to host 33rd SCMMS Toy Soldier Show

The S.C. Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum will welcome you to the South Carolina Military Miniature Society’s 33rd Annual Toy Soldier Show on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will be in the Congaree Room, above the museum’s main galleries, which have been closed to general admission for several months for renovation, but will be reopening on Dec. 6.
As usual, admission is free.
This will be the museum’s third time hosting the SCMMS event. Due to the renovations, those attending are urged to park on the upper deck of the parking garage toward the left rear of the Columbia Mills building, at 301 Gervais St., and follow the signs to enter from there.
The event involves a lot more than toy soldiers. You will see figures and dioramas featuring farms, zoos, villages, cowboys, native Americans, parks, and figures from around the world.
There will also be a few living history re-enactors as well, dressed in authentic uniforms and able to answer your questions, unlike their smaller plastic counterparts.
But there will be plenty of toy soldiers as well, and more than just those little green guys they used to sell at the five and dime when you were a kid. One of the starring displays will be this year’s SCMMS club diorama, “The Rangers Attacking Pointe Du Hoc, 6 June 1944.”
You will also find nationally known vendors selling toy soldiers and civilian figures, vehicles, model buildings, action figures, fantasy and sci-fi figures, paints and hobby items, and other collectible toys, covering 50 tables.
The South Carolina Military Miniature Society’s purpose is to promote, showcase and expand the toy soldier and miniature figure hobby through mentorship, shows, exhibitions, dioramas and fellowship.
The South Carolina Military Miniature Society has branches in Columbia and Charleston and meets monthly in restaurants and members’ homes. Anyone interested in joining SCMMS can stop at the information table at the show entrance for details and contact information. At the show, members will be happy to talk with you about the society’s hobby and club activities.
