A.C. Flora High School’s boys varsity golf team won the Class AAAA state championship May 14 at the Rose Hill Golf Club in Bluffton. The team had a score of 589 for two rounds, the lowest of the 16 schools competing in the championship.

This is the boys varsity golf team’s 17th state championship win and the sixth for Head Coach Robert Dargan.

“The team feels great about it. They expected to win. They prepared like they were going to win. The reason we won was because of the preparation they did. The amount of work the boys did, even when it was 35 or 40 degrees outside, this win was what they worked for,” he said.

Dargan, who is retiring at the end of this school year after 10 years of coaching A.C. Flora’s boys varsity golf team and 12 years of coaching A.C. Flora’s girls varsity golf team, says he sees the boys on the team as his sons.

“When you’re all working toward a common goal, then it’s pretty special because you end up having people who are supporting one another and they’re part of something bigger than themselves. I feel like I’ve had a hundred different sons during my time as coach. I will miss that very much,” said Dargan.
