American Legion Post 25 adds Fourth Flag Box in Laurens County

December 14, 2022

The American flag has a long and rich history and there is a protocol for the proper retirement of the United States Flag.

The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k states-“The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

If your flag is tattered or faded and ready to be retired, American Legion Post 25 has made it easier for residents of Laurens County to properly dispose of the flag. Flag boxes have been placed around the county. Simply bring your flag to one of the four locations and leave it in the box. Members of American Legion Post 25 will conduct the appropriate retirement service for the flags.

With the addition of a flag box at the Laurens County Veterans Affairs Office (Bolt Drive in Laurens) there are now four locations.

You can find the flag boxes here:

  • Laurens County Veterans Affairs Office
  • Laurens County Sheriff’s Office
  • Ace Hardware – Laurens
  • Ace Hardware – Clinton

The flag boxes are made by the industrial arts class at Laurens High school with materials donated by Post 25.

Fly the flag proudly and the retire it properly. It’s simple, just bring it to one of the four flag boxes.
