Attorney John McCants joins Baker, Ravenel & Bender

John McCants, a civil litigation attorney who has practiced since 1988, has joined Baker, Ravenel and Bender, as a partner.

His full range of practice includes construction litigation, insurance coverage, commercial litigation, bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights/insolvency and reorganization law, and bankruptcy litigation. In the construction area, he has mainly defended contractors in cases involving construction defects, sureties, design, products liability, developer rights and mechanic liens. He has represented insurers in numerous lawsuits concerning commercial general liability insurance and business property and casualty insurance.

He has appeared before South Carolina circuit courts, the South Carolina Supreme Court, the South Carolina Court of Appeals, the United States District Court in the District of South Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987, after earning a bachelor’s degree from Washington and Lee University in 1984.

He has been honored for his professional work by Best Lawyers in America® for the past 15 years, and also been recognized many times by South Carolina Super Lawyers®. He is rated AV Preeminent Rating® by Martindale-Hubbell®.
