BRIGHT+CO Marketing appoints industry Veteran Motte Brown as Chief Operating Officer

February 21, 2022

Newly created role designed to drive efficiencies, ensure sustainable growth

Greenville-based full-service marketing communications firm BRIGHT+CO Marketing has hired industry Veteran Motte Brown to serve in the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer. The position was developed to allow the agency to be more scalable and efficient while driving continued and sustainable long- and short-term growth.

Brown has been working with BRIGHT for nearly six months, handling integrated marketing service with an emphasis on performance and insights. After only a short time, BRIGHT+CO CEO Jennifer Sutton recognized his ability to take on a more advanced role to help provide additional structure and long-term growth for the agency. His strong strategic marketing background and history of delivering ideas and impact made him a natural choice for this new role.

He will oversee daily operations and supervise all employees, set comprehensive goals and manage the agency’s output across all profit-generating work. Specific duties include designing and implementing business strategies, plans, policies and procedures, while evaluating overall client performance and account health to make needed adjustments.

Always on the forefront of marketing trends and tactics, Brown brings more than 20 years of marketing expertise across a wide range of sectors, including B-to-B, B-to-C and non-profits to his new position. While he has a particular passion for and depth of experience in developing and delivering highly effective cross-platform digital marketing programs and related content, Brown has helped strategize, concept, create and implement large integrated marketing campaigns spanning paid, owned, earned and social media. He has led revenue enhancement and client retention strategies for top national brands like USA Olympics, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Trans World Radio. Among his more notable achievements are creating a podcast that eventually turned into a nationally syndicated radio show and concepting and developing several top-ranked blogs.

Brown comes to BRIGHT from one of the world’s most well-respected digital marketing agencies, where he served as a managing director.  Prior to his time in the agency world, he led marketing efforts for several high-profile national non-profit organizations, playing a key role in adopting new tactics like podcasts, online channel and content development and social media platforms, leveraging tools like A/B split testing, SEO and marketing automation to drive efficiencies and enhance campaign performance and client ROI.

With a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in communications from Clemson University, Brown began his career on Capitol Hill, where he served as a legislative correspondent and special projects coordinator for South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond. He credits his time on the Hill with teaching him the art of compromise and the ability to remain calm and focused in even the most stressful situations.

“Rapidly growing agencies can sometimes fall into the trap of focusing so much on the work itself that efficiencies, process optimization and adopting new and better technologies are not examined closely, which often results in an inability to sustain that growth long-term,” said BRIGHT+CO Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Sutton. “Motte’s broad skill set and depth of experience in these critical areas, along with his calming presence and extremely clear strategic thinking, make him uniquely positioned to help BRIGHT focus on what matters most as we continue our growth trajectory and build on our incredible success to date.”
