Bubbles and Big Adventures at EdVenture Children's Museum

June 13, 2007

Columbia, S.C. – Children will love the hands-on fun and learning this summer at EdVenture’s two newest exhibits, the Big Adventure and Bubbleloosa. The wonderfully wacky challenge game of fun-filled action-packed BIG ADVENTURE opens June 16 and runs through September 16.

Children can choose their own adventure and challenge their mental and physical abilities in the new exhibit. Activity adventures include:

• Adventure Mountain – climb a six-foot wall of rocks

• Tunnels of Fun – crawl through dark tunnels to reach the crow’s nest

• Out on a Ledge – move from building to building on a thin beam

• Virtual Flyer – fly with your friends on this kid-sized airplane

• River Crossing: Bridge Out – keep your balance to escape the alligators

• The Main Drag – explore a variety of surfaces and vehicles

• Charlie’s Web – create a six-and-a-half-foot web challenge of your own

“Having fun is essential to a child’s growth and learning process,” said Cindy DeTuelo, director of education at EdVenture. “Children want to be actively involved in their learning. They love to be challenged. The more fully and actively a child is engaged, the more intense the learning experience. That’s why the Big Adventure is such a great exhibit.”

Bubbles are on the loose again this summer in EdVenture’s outdoor exhibit, BUBBLELOOSA! Children can become a bubbleologist for an afternoon and explore the shapes, sizes and colors of bubbles. With a new bubble-blower that cranks out 25,000 bubbles per minute, bubbles are sure to be floating all over this summer. Children can visit five bubble stations where they can pull a string and make a bubble window, use tubing to create tiny bubble cells in a see-through block case, wiggle a plastic hose around to make big bubble domes, use plastic hangers to make a long bubble train, and step inside the bubble chamber, pull a string and create a person-in-a-bubble for loads of sudsy fun!

Now through Labor Day, EdVenture is open seven days a week: Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $6.95 for children, $8.95 for adults and children one and under are admitted free. Bubbleloosa and the Big Adventure are free with paid admission.
