Celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week with Experience Columbia SC

April 30, 2021

In recognition of U.S. Travel Association’s National Travel and Tourism Week, the annual event championing the important role travel and tourism play in local communities and economies, Experience Columbia SC invites you to acknowledge the “Power of Travel” May 2 – 8.

What better time to recognize how far the travel and hospitality industry has come this past year than with this initiative that reminds us of the value of tourism and the important role it plays in our community.

“As we approach the upcoming National Travel and Tourism Week, we’re excited to see the return of travel and tourism activity,” said ECSC President and CEO, Bill Ellen. “We’ve struggled down an unprecedented road of challenges due to the pandemic. However, we have remained focused on our mission and are now at a point of what I think will be a very strong recovery.”

This year, ECSC is celebrating the local tourism industry with a few special programs throughout the week. Our team will be out and about in the community showing our appreciation for our hotel and attractions partners, providing free lunches for cab drivers and hosting a Partner Spotlight event at the Columbia SC Visitors Center in the Vista on Thurs., May 6, where we’ll feature a different small business or hospitality partner each hour throughout the day. We invite the community to stop by this partner event to support local businesses and hang out for a while. Plus, be sure to follow @columbiasc on Twitter for a daily Real Travel Fact.

Tourism is one of the leading industries and economic drivers for both the greater Columbia area and the state as a whole, supporting thousands of jobs and welcoming millions of visitors each year.

“Travel, including meetings, sporting events and leisure, are all trending in a positive direction. People are eager to get back to in-person meetings and attend various activities that require travel,” said Ellen. “We stand ready and prepared to welcome visitors to our region and provide them with a safe and enjoyable experience.”
