Charleston Metro Chamber recognizes state legislative delegation as Champions of Business

June 28, 2018

The 2018 Legislative Session resulted in tremendous victories thus far with the passage of the Nuisance Lawsuits Bill and  Automatic Stay. Both are major victories from the Charleston Metro Chamber’s Legislative Agenda and to celebrate the local elected officials who made it possible, the Chamber hosted State Delegation Appreciation on June 26, at the Zucker Family Graduate Education Center.

The Chamber recognized 22 of our state legislators who represent Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties with the 2018 Champions of Business award. These legislators always consider the business climate when they vote and voted at least 75 percent for Chamber priority issues this year.

“Thank you to each of our delegation members for their time, effort and leadership so far this session,” stated Bryan Derreberry, Charleston Metro Chamber President and CEO. “Their hard work and willingness to work together is moving our region forward. The passage of the Nuisance Bill, which will attract further investment in South Carolina, and Automatic Stay, which signifies quicker completion times on our major bridge and road projects are terrific and celebratory wins.”

The Chamber also extended well wishes to Representative Katie Arrington. She planned to attend the event, but was unable due to recovering from the terrible car accident she was involved in on Friday night.

Before this year’s legislative session comes to an end, there is more work to do. Chamber leaders urge our delegation to override Governor McMaster’s veto of the expungement bill – H.3209 –  which helps former nonviolent offenders who’ve paid their debt to society get back into the workforce and to keep the high impact incentive package in S.1043, which is currently in a conference committee and creates a new tool for economic developers to retain and recruit high wage, knowledge economy jobs in South Carolina.
