Chief Communications Officer Selected to Riley Institute’s DLI Program

March 3, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The Riley Institute’s Diversity Leaders Initiative (DLI) has selected its 8th class of fellows from the Midlands, which includes Alvin Caughman, the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy’s (SC Campaign) Chief Communications Officer.  Caughman joins a class of 40 leaders and an alumni network of more than 1,400 from across the state.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have been selected to this program and to have the opportunity to learn from other participants who represent corporate, nonprofit, education, faith-based and government sectors,” said Caughman.  “I look forward to growing both personally and professionally through this unique experience.”

Class members meet over the course of five months in a format driven by timely, relevant case studies and other experiential learning tools designed to maximize interactions and productive relationships among program participants.  As part of the program, leaders also work in cross-sector groups to respond to real issues and opportunities in their communities through capstone service projects.

“We were thrilled to hear Alvin was selected to DLI and know his inclusion will benefit not only him personally, but our entire organization,” said Forrest Alton, SC Campaign Chief Executive Officer.  “While Alvin is relatively new to our organization, he has already made a significant impact on our leadership structure, communications efforts and overall programming.  He will be a tremendous asset to the Midlands’ class.”

As Chief Communications Officer of the SC Campaign, Caughman provides hands-on, day-to-day leadership of the SC Campaign communications group; is responsible for all marketing efforts of the agency; and oversees the organization’s brands.

In addition to Caughman, the SC Campaign has produced four DLI graduates – Forrest Alton, Chief Executive Officer; Gwen Baker, Chief Operations Officer; Erin Johnson, Chief Community Investment Officer; and Doug Taylor, Chief Program Officer.
